For peace of mind we managed to find a superb electrician who we asked for an assessment of the house condition wiring. We were lucky we did as the wiring was in terrible condition and was a potential fire hazard.
After an assessment by an electrician which mentioned that our wiring was unsafe, we had no alternative but to get the house rewired completely.
This was a must to do for us as it gave us peace of mind.
Previously we had three fuses covering the whole house and these were not offering the correct level of electrical safety that we needed.
Purchasing electrical wire in Brazil is not all that cheap to be honest and as always you have to ask for discount when you purchase. You must be able to speak fluent Portuguese to be able to do this however. All wiring as well as fuses can be obtained from larger hardware stores without any problems. Just look around first as prices do vary though.
We kept the old fuse box cover as it was part of the original box, albeit we did paint it later and make it look good as new.
Finding good tradesman in Brazil is one of those things that doesn't come easy, as once you found them they will always be busy doing other works. But quality people are there you just need to find them. Be aware that there are a lot of people who claim to be qualified in a trade, when in affect they are not, so a lot comes from word of mouth with regard to good tradesman.
Once we had the wiring sorted along with numerous fuses we could then plan for air conditioner units to be installed.
These units require separate fuses for each installation. This was already planned into the fuse box when our electrician did the wiring so was quite straight forward when it came to be connected.
